noel guthrie: I am a New Zealand artist and author, both of these activities have become a passion of mine, just for the sheer enjoyment it brings. I was 52 years old before I was encouraged to take up art. Never having touched an artists brush or pencil in my life, it was a terriying prospect. I attempted pencil sketching to begin with before having a go at watercolour sketching. Within twelve months, I was offered a weekly spot in a local daily newspaper, providing I could write an accompanying story. Now, I could not string two words together, let alone a story. During the following twelve months, I began freelancing to several other newspapers, some of which continued for many years. Since that time, I have published five non-fiction books of local historical interest, with another non-fiction due to be released later in 2011. My seventh book, a short story humorous fiction, is due to be published very shortly, 2011. These days, I reside in the seaside city of Timaru, in the South Island of NZ, with my wife Helen, of 50 years. As time goes by, I hope to share some of my stories and artwork with you all.
